A ride to Intramuros: determining the art of emerging issues

The Philippines is well known for being a country diverse and rich in cultures. The Philippines has been considered as a rising market and a newly industrialized country, which allowed its economical market to reach internationally. While the Philippines has taken control of its resources to make them known globally, many rising issues are being a major problem in the country. Those issues are Poverty, unequal access of benefits, education at a high price, mentality of people that is the so called “Pinoy pride” and many more.

I am aware of all the issues and that has piqued me into venturing out and study how these issues inflicts us great damage. It is a very hot afternoon, I am in the busy streets of Intramuros together with my bike to capture photos that can be a form of representation of such issues. I honestly think that we people, especially us Filipinos should become aware of such issues and hopefully, be able to provide a solution. If we people, be able and capable to create solutions for such issues, we might be able to mold our country that can not just only provide rich markets from our agriculture or diverse equipments, but also a country that is issue free or less issue one.

While busy riding my bike, a pile of garbage has caught my attention. Pollution, wouldn’t these pile garbage represent pollution? It is proven pollution has become a major issue in the Philippines due to people just trashing their garbage anywhere. I think that this makes the jobs of street cleaners more difficult as more of trashes may become a consequence of a natural disaster. It would hurt also if there were no street cleaners. I don’t think that it is the end for people for change, because soon, people will realize or become aware that their trash thrown away in the wrong place is contributing to the rise of pollution.

If people only have the mentality that not just because the community has cleaners or garbage collectors, we are not in the position to help dispose of it. I certainly have observed while taking my rest that people are dumping their trashes anywhere and it is really disappointing. The art behind this is if we are eager to join the community not as street cleaners, but as volunteers and advocates for change.

Lake of Revellin del Parian

If we simply are to become advocates for change, we not just be able to clean the community’s trash but also help preserve and clean attractions. I honestly think that if this lake would become clean, it would become beautiful and exquisite to the eye. We can become a solution and initiators for change.

There is always a room for change, and proposing and coming up with solutions to problems would always become a possibility. I always carry a saying with me “Kung gusto may paraan, kung ayaw may dahilan” Let us become proponents for change. My ride ends here, thank you Intramuros.
